FAQs

All the extra keys for the locks are cut to the specific locks that have been ordered.

There are 2 different sizes of lock cases as each lock will give you a different backset. This is the distance from the edge of the lock to the keyhole / spindle for handles. The bigger locks are better for solid wooden doors as they move the keyhole away from the door stop further. If you have a large door stop and fit a 64mm lock case you can find that you hit your knuckles on the door stop when you turn the key. Alternatively the 64mm lock case is better when you have a glass panelled door as you may not have enough wood on the stile to fit the 76mm lock into before you hit and therefore smash the glass. This is very important to check when installing locks to doors with glass in.

No, if the door is a communal entrance/ exit you MUST have a turn on the inside, so a 5 lever key on the inside is not suitable.

There are specific locks we sell called Egress locks that meet both the Insurance and Fire regulations so these are suitable for communal entrance doors.

To meet the fire regulations you need to be able to exit a communal door without the use of a key. If you are using the lock on your personal front door then they are fine but if others use the door you need to look into getting a turn knob internally so you can exit without the use of a key.

With outward opening doors you can not get a BS3621 outward opening nightlatch (see our section for all the options we have available) but if you install a standard security nightlatch you can also fit a BS3621 deadlock to the door which will give you the insurance rated lock required. As the deadlocks are not handed you can use them on any type of wooden door.

With most locks that are altered to make them keyed alike you will only get 1 x set of keys with them. So if the locks normally come with 2 you will only get 2 keys total and if they come with 3 keys you will only get 3 x keys total when ordered keyed alike.

Yes you can, we would need a key back as we dont hold any records of your keys but this is possible. Please get in touch first so we can confirm everything is ok to do and then you can post your key back to us (taped to a piece of card...essential!!)

Yes, this is possible but it is important to make sure you select the same brand and model. The internals and the keys need to match so we can key the locks alike.

We do try to list the products together in our series tab on the product page which should show the suitable products that can be keyed alike together.

If in doubt please ask us and we will let you know.

A rebate set is only required on double rebated doors. If you only have a single door then you will receive all the parts you require with the lock. If you need a rebate set you will need to check the size of your rebate. The most common is 13mm but on older doors they can be 19mm or 25mm.

With the 5 lever locks they are designed to be high security so there are thousands of different keys so the keys do not come with numbers on. Therefore we can not cut additional keys for these locks without a key to copy from. If you post it back to us we can do it for you (please contact us first before you send it) or alternatively nearly all the keys we sell are available from local locksmiths in your area. They maybe more expensive so we would recommend buying the extra keys at the time of purchase so we can cut and try them before we ship the order.

Sashlocks are typically suitable for both left- and right-handed doors, as well as inward- and outward-opening applications. They are designed to be reversible on site, making installation flexible and straightforward.

Depending on the brand and model, latch reversal can be done in one of two ways:

  • Pull and twist the latch bolt to the desired position

  • Remove a retaining screw on the back of the lock case, rotate the latch, then refit the screw

This allows for easy adjustment during installation without the need for specialized tools.

Yes, this Asec 5 lever sashlock is fully compliant with British Standard BS3621:2007. This certification means it is insurance and police approved, meeting the high security requirements typically mandated by home insurance providers for external entrance doors.

This lock is engineered with several protective features, including:

  • An anti-drill plate fitted to the lock case to resist drilling.
  • A deadbolt featuring two hardened steel rollers to prevent sawing.
  • A 5-lever mechanism that provides 1,000 unique key variations for added pick resistance.

Yes, the latch on this Asec sashlock is fully reversible. This allow the lock to be easily adjusted during installation to suit either left-handed or right-handed opening doors, ensuring compatibility with your existing door setup.

This product is available in two case sizes: 64mm and 76mm. The size refers to the total depth of the lock body inserted into the door. Ensure you measure your current lock or door frame to determine which width provides the correct backset for your handles and keyhole.

The Asec 5 Lever Lock Extra Key service provides additional, precision-cut keys specifically designed for Asec 5 lever mortice locks. These keys are engineered to interact correctly with the internal lever mechanism of both sashlocks and deadlocks, ensuring a smooth rotation and reliable bolt throw without the friction or sticking often found with lower-quality duplicates.

This service is commonly used during the installation of new locking hardware when the standard key allocation is insufficient for the number of users. It is a practical solution for residential homes with multiple occupants, as well as commercial properties where various staff members require site access. By sourcing extra keys directly compatible with the original lock, users avoid the risk of premature wear on the internal levers.

  • Suitable for use with both insurance-rated BS3621 and standard 5 lever locks.
  • Direct compatibility ensures the longevity of the lock cylinder and internal components.
  • Ideal for landlords, property managers, and large households requiring multiple access sets.

Using correctly specified extra keys is essential for maintaining the operational life of the door hardware. These keys are cut to the precise depths required by Asec mechanisms, preventing the mechanical failures that can occur when using poorly matched aftermarket blanks.

The Asec Sashlock Rebate Kit is a specialist accessory designed to facilitate the installation of sashlocks into rebated double doors. When doors feature a stepped meeting stile, a standard lock cannot be fitted directly without this hardware. This kit provides a purpose-made solution to house the lock and strike plate, ensuring they are perfectly aligned for secure operation.

These kits are primarily used in timber door applications within both domestic and commercial environments. They are suitable for new door sets or as part of a hardware upgrade, providing a cleaner and more professional finish than hand-fashioned timber packings. By maintaining the correct alignment of the locking components, the kit helps to preserve the structural integrity and security of the door set.

The components are manufactured to exacting standards to match the mechanical requirements of Asec sashlocks. This ensures that the latch and deadbolt can transition smoothly between the door leaves, providing a reliable locking action and preventing unnecessary wear on the internal lock mechanism.

The FIRESTOP Intumescent Kit is a critical safety component designed specifically for use with the Asec 5 Lever British Standard Sashlock. When hardware is morticed into a fire-rated timber door, the core integrity of the door is compromised. This kit provides a heat-activated seal that restores that fire resistance by expanding to fill the gaps between the lock body and the timber leaf.

Manufactured from high-performance intumescent material, the kit includes pre-cut liners for the lock case and the strike plate. In the event of a fire, the material reacts to heat, insulating the lock hardware and preventing the spread of flames and hot gases through the door assembly.

Typical applications include commercial and residential settings where fire safety compliance is mandatory. It is suitable for both new installations and as a retrospective upgrade to ensure that the door assembly remains compliant with FD30 and FD60 fire ratings. Using this kit ensures that the installation meets the necessary safety specifications required for timber fire doors.

The Mortice Lock Drill Bit Kit is a specialised set of tooling designed to facilitate the precise installation of mortice sashlocks and deadlocks. By providing the essential drill bit diameters required for standard lock bodies, this kit ensures that the mortice cavity is bored to the correct depth and width with minimal effort.

The kit features flat wood bits which are ideal for the rapid removal of material from timber door stiles. These bits are designed to create clean, straight holes that accommodate the lock case without causing splitting. The inclusion of a pilot bit allows for accurate marking and initial drilling, which is critical for maintaining the structural integrity of the door and ensuring the lock operates correctly.

Commonly used by joiners and locksmiths, this kit is suitable for both new door installations and when upgrading existing hardware. It is compatible with most standard power drills, making it a versatile tool for residential or commercial door preparation.
