tick Key Profile: Standard

The ERA BS3621:2007 High Security Nightlatch is a specialist rim-mounted lock designed to provide superior protection for external timber doors. Meeting the rigorous criteria of British Standard BS3621:2007, this nightlatch is widely recognised by insurance providers and the police as an approved security solution for residential properties.

Engineered with technical security at its core, the lock features an automatic deadlocking mechanism. Once the door is closed, the bolt is locked in position, preventing unauthorized entry via "shimming" or forced manipulation of the latch. The extended 20mm bolt throw provides a deep, secure engagement with the box staple for enhanced resistance against physical force.

This model is particularly effective for doors with glass panels, as the internal handle can be locked from the inside with a key. This prevents an intruder from smashing the glass to operate the handle. Additional protection is provided by the integral cylinder pull, which reinforces the external cylinder against drilling and extraction attempts. It is an ideal choice for both replacement upgrades and new installations on solid or glazed timber doors.

FAQs

No unfortunately not, the BS3621 nightlatches can not be reversed. The only way to do this is to install a standard nightlatch from our outward opening nightlatch section and then also install a BS3621 deadlock. This deadlock will give you the insurance rating required.

You need to make sure the lock you fit is NON deadlocking. This means that you can not lock people into the property. There are a few nightlatches designed for these doors. The best is the Yale PBS3 or PBS4 or a more standard model would be the Yale 88 or 84.

The best locks for these would be the a rollerbolt style lock with a masterkeyed cylinder. I would not recommend installing a standard Nightlatch on these doors as the tenants can lock themselves out if they close the door behind them. We can supply these locks for you on a masterkey if you require or keyed differ if you would prefer.

The backset on these locks is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the Rim Cylinder. This is the large 32mm hole drilled through the door. There are 2 main sizes of these, 60mm or 40mm. Easiest way to find out what you have is to measure from outside of the door from the edge to the center of the keyhole. If you have a solid door you should use the 60mm backset locks, if you have a glass panelled door then you may need to use the 40mm backset. If your current lock is 50mm backset you will need to see our Union locks as only Union made a 50mm backset lock in the past.

There are different levels of security you can have with all locks. The standard locks (i.e. Yale 77, Yale 88) , then the mid level locks which can be key deadlocked from outside ( Yale 89, Union nightlatches). The double locking versions are only suitable for homes with other means of exit as you can lock people inside the house if not careful.

All the extra keys for the locks are cut to the specific locks that have been ordered.

With most locks that are altered to make them keyed alike you will only get 1 x set of keys with them. So if the locks normally come with 2 you will only get 2 keys total and if they come with 3 keys you will only get 3 x keys total when ordered keyed alike.

Yes, this ERA nightlatch conforms to BS3621:2007 (BS EN 12209). It meets the rigorous security criteria required by most insurance companies and is recommended by the police for use on external timber doors.

This model features an internal handle that can be locked with a key. This is a vital security feature for glass-paneled doors because it prevents an intruder from smashing the glass and reaching inside to manually turn the handle and unlock the door.

Once the door is closed, the main bolt automatically deadlocks. This prevents shimming or loiding, a common forced-entry technique where a credit card or similar flat tool is used to push back a standard latch.

Yes, this nightlatch includes a snib feature. This allows you to hold the bolt in the withdrawn position, preventing the door from locking automatically. This is ideal for short periods when you need to move in and out of the house freely.

The ERA High Security Deadlock Kit is a comprehensive locking solution designed to provide additional security for external timber doors. This kit is specifically engineered to be keyed alike with ERA BS3621 nightlatches, allowing for the convenience of operating both the primary and secondary locks with a single key without compromising the security of the property.

While the deadlock itself is a secondary security measure, it plays a vital role in a dual-locking system. When installed alongside an insurance-rated nightlatch, it ensures the door is secured at two distinct points, significantly increasing resistance to forced entry. The kit includes security escutcheons which are essential for protecting the cylinder against common attack methods such as drilling and snapping.

Typical applications include residential front and back doors where increased physical security is required. This kit is suitable for both new door installations and as an upgrade to existing security setups. It is recommended for use where a unified keying system is preferred to reduce the number of keys required for home access.

  • Function: Secondary deadlock for enhanced physical security.
  • Compatibility: Designed to match existing ERA keying systems.
  • System Role: Functions as a supplementary lock alongside a primary BS3621 nightlatch.
  • Components: Contains a euro deadcase, security escutcheons, and a double cylinder.
