This Toshiba S300 provides 4TB of nominal storage for recorded camera footage in a compatible DVR or NVR. It uses a 3.5-inch form factor, SATA 6 Gbit/s interface, 512e sectors and a 256MiB cache. The drive is designed for 24/7 surveillance workloads and uses SMR recording technology.

With the same camera and recording settings, more storage can extend the archive before older footage is overwritten. Extra drive capacity does not change the camera's resolution or image quality.

Internal drive only. A compatible recorder is required and is supplied separately.

Fitting and recording.

Fit the drive inside a compatible recorder and check its storage, sector-format and power requirements first. The original Ajax NVR and NVR DC specify a 7W drive-power limit; this model's specified typical operating draw is 4.36W. No Ajax exact-drive certification is claimed.

Initialise the drive through the recorder when required. Formatting permanently deletes its contents. Usable capacity and archive duration depend on formatting, camera count, bit rate, codec and recording schedule.

A suitable installed drive is needed for a local recording archive. Live viewing can work without one. The drive is supplied separately from the recorder.

No. Check the exact recorder requirements, including sector format and drive power. Ajax specifies 512e storage; 4Kn support is not guaranteed. Surveillance drives are designed for continuous camera-recording workloads.

Use the intended camera count, bit rate and recording schedule to estimate retention. A larger capacity does not improve camera resolution. Allow for formatted usable space being lower than the nominal capacity.

It provides twice the nominal storage capacity. With the same camera and recording settings, that allows a longer archive, but it does not improve the picture quality or resolution.

It matches the published 3.5-inch SATA and 512e storage requirements. Check the exact recorder and drive-power requirements before installation. This is a specification-based recommendation, not an Ajax-certified drive claim.
