The Union 1038 Auto Deadlocking Security Rim Lock is a high-security night latch designed specifically for timber doors. It features an automatic deadlocking mechanism that engages the moment the door is closed. An integrated anti-thrust slide ensures that the bolt cannot be forced back or 'shimmied' by end-pressure, providing a significant upgrade over standard rim latches.

For added security, this lock features a double-locking function. By turning the key a full revolution anti-clockwise from the exterior, the internal lever handle is deadlocked. This prevents the door from being opened from the inside, making it an excellent choice for glass panelled doors where an intruder might attempt to break the glass to reach the handle. A thumb button snib is also provided on the lock body, allowing users to temporarily hold the bolt in the retracted position or deadlock it manually from the inside.

This rim lock is versatile and suitable for both left and right-hand inward-opening doors. It is typically used as a secondary security measure on external entrance doors or as a primary lock on internal doors. Please note that due to the handle deadlocking feature, it is recommended for use on properties with alternative means of escape.

No unfortunately not, the BS3621 nightlatches can not be reversed. The only way to do this is to install a standard nightlatch from our outward opening nightlatch section and then also install a BS3621 deadlock. This deadlock will give you the insurance rating required.

You need to make sure the lock you fit is NON deadlocking. This means that you can not lock people into the property. There are a few nightlatches designed for these doors. The best is the Yale PBS3 or PBS4 or a more standard model would be the Yale 88 or 84.

The best locks for these would be the a rollerbolt style lock with a masterkeyed cylinder. I would not recommend installing a standard Nightlatch on these doors as the tenants can lock themselves out if they close the door behind them. We can supply these locks for you on a masterkey if you require or keyed differ if you would prefer.

The backset on these locks is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the Rim Cylinder. This is the large 32mm hole drilled through the door. There are 2 main sizes of these, 60mm or 40mm. Easiest way to find out what you have is to measure from outside of the door from the edge to the center of the keyhole. If you have a solid door you should use the 60mm backset locks, if you have a glass panelled door then you may need to use the 40mm backset. If your current lock is 50mm backset you will need to see our Union locks as only Union made a 50mm backset lock in the past.

There are different levels of security you can have with all locks. The standard locks (i.e. Yale 77, Yale 88) , then the mid level locks which can be key deadlocked from outside ( Yale 89, Union nightlatches). The double locking versions are only suitable for homes with other means of exit as you can lock people inside the house if not careful.

All the extra keys for the locks are cut to the specific locks that have been ordered.

With most locks that are altered to make them keyed alike you will only get 1 x set of keys with them. So if the locks normally come with 2 you will only get 2 keys total and if they come with 3 keys you will only get 3 x keys total when ordered keyed alike.

The Union 1038 is designed for timber doors between 35mm and 60mm thick. It is suitable for doors hinged on either the left or right that open inwards, and can be used on both solid and glass-panelled doors.

When the door is closed, an anti-thrust slide automatically secures the bolt against external pressure to prevent it from being forced open. For extra security, you can deadlock the internal handle by turning the key a full revolution anti-clockwise from the outside.

Yes, the lock includes a thumb button on the internal body. This allows you to hold the bolt in the withdrawn position for convenience, or conversely, it can be used to hold the bolt in the locked position.

This is a safety precaution because the internal handle can be deadlocked from the outside using a key. In a property with only one exit, this could potentially prevent someone inside from escaping quickly during an emergency if the handle has been locked.
