The Yale No. 2 Nightlatch is a high-security rim lock solution specifically designed for doors where internal locking is a priority, such as those with glass panels or narrow stiles. The primary security feature is the key-lockable internal handle, which prevents an intruder from reaching through broken glass to operate the latch from the inside.

Operationally, the latch is designed to automatically deadlock when the door is closed, ensuring the property is secure without manual intervention. It includes a snib function, which serves a dual purpose: it can hold the latch in the 'open' position to allow free entry, or it can be used to deadlock the latch from the inside for additional safety. The unit is also engineered with anti-carding protection to resist common bypass techniques.

Typically used on domestic timber doors, this nightlatch features a 40mm backset, making it suitable for doors with limited space between the edge and any glazing. It is recommended for use in conjunction with a BS3621 mortice deadlock to meet standard insurance requirements for entrance doors. This product is suitable for both new installations and as a replacement for existing 40mm rim latches.

No unfortunately not, the BS3621 nightlatches can not be reversed. The only way to do this is to install a standard nightlatch from our outward opening nightlatch section and then also install a BS3621 deadlock. This deadlock will give you the insurance rating required.

You need to make sure the lock you fit is NON deadlocking. This means that you can not lock people into the property. There are a few nightlatches designed for these doors. The best is the Yale PBS3 or PBS4 or a more standard model would be the Yale 88 or 84.

The best locks for these would be the a rollerbolt style lock with a masterkeyed cylinder. I would not recommend installing a standard Nightlatch on these doors as the tenants can lock themselves out if they close the door behind them. We can supply these locks for you on a masterkey if you require or keyed differ if you would prefer.

The backset on these locks is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the Rim Cylinder. This is the large 32mm hole drilled through the door. There are 2 main sizes of these, 60mm or 40mm. Easiest way to find out what you have is to measure from outside of the door from the edge to the center of the keyhole. If you have a solid door you should use the 60mm backset locks, if you have a glass panelled door then you may need to use the 40mm backset. If your current lock is 50mm backset you will need to see our Union locks as only Union made a 50mm backset lock in the past.

There are different levels of security you can have with all locks. The standard locks (i.e. Yale 77, Yale 88) , then the mid level locks which can be key deadlocked from outside ( Yale 89, Union nightlatches). The double locking versions are only suitable for homes with other means of exit as you can lock people inside the house if not careful.

All the extra keys for the locks are cut to the specific locks that have been ordered.

With most locks that are altered to make them keyed alike you will only get 1 x set of keys with them. So if the locks normally come with 2 you will only get 2 keys total and if they come with 3 keys you will only get 3 x keys total when ordered keyed alike.

The Yale No. 2 features an internal lockable handle. This provides essential security for doors with glass panels, as it prevents an intruder from smashing the glass and simply turning the handle to gain entry from the inside.

The 40mm backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the keyhole. This narrower profile is specific to the No. 2 model; if your door requires a standard 60mm backset, you should select the Yale No. 1 instead.

Anti-carding prevents intruders from using a flexible object like a credit card to slide back the latch. This lock automatically deadlocks the bolt as soon as the door is closed, making it impossible to retract the latch from the outside without a key.

The snib function allows for two convenient settings:

  • Holding the latch back so the door can stay unlocked for easy access.
  • Deadlocking the latch from the inside for increased security while you are indoors.
