This YS170 family uses a 20mm flat faceplate, with two outer hooks and a hookbolt at the centre. The 35mm and 45mm backset configurations must be matched separately to the existing door.

Yale's operating instructions distinguish normal lever/lever operation from a correctly configured nightlatch arrangement. The snib's latch-retention function is not a substitute for key deadlocking. Match the original case, follower arrangement, fixings and keeps; a similar YS170 name does not establish an interchangeable complete strip.

Use it only where the exact flat-faceplate YS170 mechanism matches the door preparation. Check the selected backset, case, faceplate ends, hook positions, fixings and keeps rather than relying on door material.

The reverse-action outer hooks engage matching keeps. They form part of the door's locking system, but do not guarantee that the complete door cannot be lifted or forced.

A correctly configured split-follower and furniture arrangement can provide nightlatch operation. The outside handle behaviour depends on that configuration; it is not an assurance of keyless escape from a deadlocked door.

Latch retention holds the latch withdrawn for convenience where the appropriate facility is fitted. It does not deadlock the whole door or replace the lock's normal key-locking sequence.
