Staying Safe Security Guide

This security guide is designed to help you decide whether or not your house is up to the level of security it should be. We would recommend everyone follows this basic guide and if in doubt look to fit additional security. We have seen a dramatic increase in break-ins and forced entries which could be caused by the current recession we are in. Most break ins we have attended could of been easily prevented with some additional security products. Front doors: As these are the most frequently used doors so you want simple to use but high security locks fitted. Usually a rim nightlatch is fitted to the upper half of the door. This will give you a basic level of security against opportunist burglars. We would recommend fitting either a high security Yale PBS1 lock here or a Union 4L67E. These are both British standard nightlatches that auto-deadlock as soon as the door closes offering top level security but utilizing the same fixing position as the standard nightlatches. Also a good idea to have on the front door is a 5 lever mortice deadlock. These locks are designed to securely lock the door and require the key to lock/unlock the bolt from either side. If fitted in conjunction with a British Standard nightlatch this will give you a great level of security for your main external door. Rear doors: Rear/side door are usually forgotten about as people dont think they are as likely to be broken into but these are more vulnerable than the front doors as they are off the road and hidden away giving the buglar more time and cover. These doors should also have at least one 5 lever mortice lock fitted and if you really want to secure the door fit a second 5 lever lock in the top half of the door. Internal door bolts are a great way of securing the door from the inside but can only be used from the inside so these do limit you if you want to use the door as an entrance. Window locks: Most modern homes are now being fitted with UPVC windows and doors which are double glazed and come as standard with key locking handles and multi-point locks. But single glazed wooden and metal windows where usually only fitted with a single internal catch which is not key locking. These are a burglars dream and without any trouble they can break the glass and open your window. Additional locks (fitted top and bottom or on smaller windows you can just use on in the middle) are essential for these windows. Side Gates, Often not locked and left open these are a great way to prevent opportunists from gaining access to side and rear doors/windows. Not all properties have a gate but if you do adding a padbolt and padlock will lock the gate securely. CCTV. We offer a range of wireless CCTV cameras from ABUS which are perfect for all. Wireless operation these can be fitted externally and only need to be plugged into a mains socket (internally). The camera is motion activated so can either start recording or record and sound a buzzer as soon as someone approaches your front door. These cameras come with infrared night vision so suitable for day or night use. Personal Attack alarms. We offer a personal alarm which is suitable for all. Designed to neatly fit in you pocket or purse the high decibel siren will not only attract attention will scare off attackers.
