4/10 Security Rating

The ERA 133 Traditional Nightlatch is a surface-mounted locking solution designed specifically for outward-opening timber doors. Unlike standard nightlatches, this reversed strike version ensures the latch engages securely with the frame keep when the door swings away from the interior, making it an ideal choice for specific architectural requirements or narrow entryways.

Functionally, the unit features a 60mm backset, which is the industry standard for traditional front door locks, allowing for straightforward replacement of existing hardware or new installations. The internal body is equipped with a snib function, enabling the user to either deadlock the bolt for maximum security or hold the latch back to prevent accidental lockouts.

Typical applications include domestic entrance doors where internal clearance is limited. The non-handed mechanism ensures versatility, as it can be fitted to either side of the door. The product is tested to meet corrosion resistance standards (BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 3), ensuring long-term durability and reliability in varied environmental conditions.

FAQs

No unfortunately not, the BS3621 nightlatches can not be reversed. The only way to do this is to install a standard nightlatch from our outward opening nightlatch section and then also install a BS3621 deadlock. This deadlock will give you the insurance rating required.

You need to make sure the lock you fit is NON deadlocking. This means that you can not lock people into the property. There are a few nightlatches designed for these doors. The best is the Yale PBS3 or PBS4 or a more standard model would be the Yale 88 or 84.

The best locks for these would be the a rollerbolt style lock with a masterkeyed cylinder. I would not recommend installing a standard Nightlatch on these doors as the tenants can lock themselves out if they close the door behind them. We can supply these locks for you on a masterkey if you require or keyed differ if you would prefer.

The backset on these locks is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the Rim Cylinder. This is the large 32mm hole drilled through the door. There are 2 main sizes of these, 60mm or 40mm. Easiest way to find out what you have is to measure from outside of the door from the edge to the center of the keyhole. If you have a solid door you should use the 60mm backset locks, if you have a glass panelled door then you may need to use the 40mm backset. If your current lock is 50mm backset you will need to see our Union locks as only Union made a 50mm backset lock in the past.

There are different levels of security you can have with all locks. The standard locks (i.e. Yale 77, Yale 88) , then the mid level locks which can be key deadlocked from outside ( Yale 89, Union nightlatches). The double locking versions are only suitable for homes with other means of exit as you can lock people inside the house if not careful.

All the extra keys for the locks are cut to the specific locks that have been ordered.

With most locks that are altered to make them keyed alike you will only get 1 x set of keys with them. So if the locks normally come with 2 you will only get 2 keys total and if they come with 3 keys you will only get 3 x keys total when ordered keyed alike.

Yes, this is a "reversed" nightlatch specifically configured for outward-opening doors. While traditional nightlatches are typically designed for inward-opening doors, this model includes the necessary components to secure doors that open away from the building towards the exterior.

The 60mm represents the backset, which is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the key cylinder. This is a standard size for many UK residential timber doors, making it a common choice for both new installations and direct replacements of existing locks.

The snib is a sliding button on the internal lock case that allows you to deadlock the door from the inside. When the snib is engaged, the latch is held firmly in the locked position and cannot be retracted from the outside, even with the correct key, providing peace of mind at night.

Yes, this product is designed to be "keyed to pass." This feature allows you to have multiple ERA nightlatches or compatible rim cylinders set to the same key pattern, enabling a single key to operate several different doors on your property for added convenience.

This ERA 5-pin cylinder key is designed for use with the standard 5-pin cylinder range, including Euro profile, oval, and rim cylinders. It serves as a precise mechanical component, engineered to interact with the pin-tumbler system of the lock to enable smooth operation of the latch or deadbolt.

These keys are typically required when the standard quantity of keys provided with a new lock set is insufficient for the number of residents or staff members. They are frequently used in residential and light commercial settings, providing a cost-effective solution for multi-occupancy buildings or for establishing emergency backup access.

When used with compatible 5-pin ERA hardware, these keys ensure consistent performance without the risk of jamming or accelerated wear on the internal pins. It is an essential accessory for property managers, landlords, and homeowners looking to extend access to their existing locking systems.

The Yale Reversed Angled Strike is a specialist component designed specifically for doors that open outwards. Standard nightlatch installations typically require a box or flat strike; however, when a door opens away from the internal face, a reverse bolt nightlatch must be used in conjunction with an angled strike plate like this one.

The angled design allows the latch bolt to engage securely with the frame while compensating for the door's direction of travel. This ensures that the locking mechanism operates smoothly and maintains the integrity of the door's security. It is an essential part for timber door frames where a standard strike plate would not be functional due to the door orientation.

  • Suitable for timber door frames
  • Functions with Yale and other standard reverse bolt nightlatches
  • Assists in maintaining correct alignment between the lock and frame
  • Durable construction for long-term reliability

The Yale Reversed Long Strike is a technical component designed to facilitate the secure operation of reverse bolt nightlatches. Specifically engineered for outward opening doors, this strike plate provides the necessary clearance and housing for the bolt to engage correctly when the door is in the closed position.

The extended lip profile is a key functional feature, protecting the timber door frame from repeated latch contact and preventing splintering or wear. It is typically used in residential or commercial settings where traditional inward opening doors are not feasible, ensuring that the security properties of the nightlatch are maintained. This part is suitable for both initial installations and as a direct replacement for worn or damaged strike plates within an existing Yale lock system.

  • Specifically for outward opening door configurations
  • Protects frame surfaces from latch impact
  • Ensures correct alignment for reverse bolt nightlatches
  • Durable construction for frequent use
