MotionCam U (PhOD) detects movement and sends a sequence of photographs to the Ajax app. HDR and infrared illumination help make those images useful in difficult light, without installing a continuously recording camera in the room.

Details in bright and dark scenes.

HDR helps retain detail where a room contains both bright windows and darker areas. Image resolution can be set up to 640 x 480 pixels. This is a photo-verification camera, not an HD video camera.

A photograph when it is needed. With access under your control.

The PhOD version supports authorised photo requests and configured scenarios as well as alarm verification. Permissions determine who may request and view photographs.

Agree those permissions with the occupants. The detector provides event or request-based images, not a continuous live CCTV stream.

Good detection starts with placement.

The PIR sensor covers movement up to 12 metres when installed at 2.4 metres. The lens, SmartDetect processing, temperature compensation and three sensitivity levels work together to distinguish movement from common disturbances. Keep the intended detection zone clear.

MotionProtect U is the straightforward indoor choice. MotionProtect Plus U adds microwave verification for more demanding conditions. MotionCam U (PhOD) adds photographs and permission-controlled photo requests. These are alternatives for a detection point, not a checklist of devices needed in every room.

What you need. Fitting and setup.

You need a compatible Ajax hub with current software. No mains or Ethernet cable is required at the detector: it uses the two supplied batteries and Jeweller/Wings radio. Mount it indoors at the recommended 2.4 metres, facing across the likely path of movement rather than straight along it. Avoid heaters, direct sunlight, strong draughts and views through glass. Run the radio and detection-zone tests before final fixing. Pet immunity up to 20 kg and 50 cm depends on correct mounting, room layout and sensitivity. If you are unsure about coverage, seek advice before final fixing.

No. It is a motion detector that sends still-image sequences for verification. It does not provide continuous live video or a video archive.

No. Photo-on-demand access is permission-controlled and disabled by default. Agree the privacy settings with everyone affected by the installation.

Ajax specifies pet immunity up to 20 kg and 50 cm with correct installation and configuration. Furniture, access near the lens and mounting height affect this, so test the actual room.

Do not plan to detect movement through glass. Follow the indoor placement guidance and verify the detection zone after mounting.

Use the exact MotionCam U (PhOD) compatibility list, not a generic MotionCam listing. Hub 2 Plus is a suitable hub in this pilot; check the current list before adding a range extender.

Infrared illumination allows photographs in darkness and low light. Photo delivery time depends on resolution and radio/network conditions.

Two included CR123A batteries provide up to four years with Photo on Demand disabled, or up to three years with it enabled. The system reports low battery.
